Il Museo delle Antichità Egizie di Torino, meglio conosciuto semplicemente come Museo egizio, è considerato, per il valore dei reperti, il più importante del mondo dopo quello del Cairo, nonché il più importante d'Italia seguito da quello di Firenze[1].
Ha sede nello storico Palazzo dell'Accademia delle Scienze, sede dell'omonima Accademia e che ospita anche la Galleria Sabauda, eretto nel XVII secolo dall'architetto Guarino Guarini.
Nel 2006 è stato visitato da 554.911 persone, con un aumento del 93,8% rispetto al 2005[2].
Il museo è stato fondato nel 1824 da Carlo Felice, che acquistò la Collezione Drovetti, composta dai ritrovamenti di Bernardino Drovetti, console francese in Egitto. Fu in seguito ampliato con i reperti provenienti dagli scavi di Ernesto Schiaparelli proveniente da Barbania.
Nel museo sono presenti circa 30mila pezzi che coprono il periodo dal paleolitico all'epoca copta. I più importanti sono:
la tomba intatta di Kha e Merit
il tempio rupestre di Ellesija
il Canone Reale, conosciuto come Papiro di Torino, una delle più importanti fonti sulla sequenza dei sovrani egizi
la Mensa isiaca, che i Savoia ottengono dai Gonzaga nel XVII secolo
la tela dipinta di Gebelein
i rilievi di Djoser
le statue delle dee Iside e Sekhmet e quella di Ramesse II scoperte da Vitaliano Donati nel tempio della dea Mut a Karnak
il Papiro delle miniere d'oro

The Museo Egizio is a museum in Turin, Italy, specialising in Egyptian archaelogy and anthropology. It houses the world's largest and most comprehensive collection of Egyptian antiquities outside the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.[citation needed] In 2006 it received 554,911 visitors.[1]
